Android Smartphone with Largest Battery Capacity Gets an Upgrade

In Q4 2015, Shenzhen-based handset maker Oukitel released the first Android handset in the world to have a whopping 10,000 mAh battery pack, which - they claimed - was capable of delivering an unbelievable 10 to 15 days of uptime with regular use.

Oukitel K10000 made headlines during its run not just because of its record-breaking powerbank-worthy battery capacity but because of its obviously inconvenient heft.

Sure, the handset gave users peace of mind in terms of not worrying that it would run out of juice in the middle of the day. However, K10000's 13.8 millimeter thickness and 315 grams weight (almost double that of some smartphones during that year) made it hard to carry around or to keep in the pocket.

Yesterday - May 8, 2017, Oukitel announced the K10000 Pro, which effectively addresses the weaknesses of its predecessor while offering a boost in overall performance and the same staggering battery size.

The K10000 Pro only weighs 292.5 grams, which means that it's lighter than the 2015 model by 22.5 grams if my math serves me right.

Powered by a 10,000 mAh pack with Fast Charging support, Oukitel K10000 Pro is equipped with a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display that's protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass touchscreen. Under the hood, it runs on a 64-Bit Octa Core MediaTek MT6780T processor, has 3GB of RAM, and comes with 32GB of internal storage; A set of internal hardware indicating that it will be a fairly affordable midrange model.

As of today, the company has yet to release more information about this model, including its camera specifications, pricing details, and exact release date in China as well as in other territories globally.

Oukitel has never officially released a handset in the Philippines. However, since our local handset brands get their smartphones mostly from Chinese OEMs, there's a chance that one Pinoy company would bring this particular model here albeit with different name -- if many consumers show interest in it and if they can get it for a good bulk price, I guess.
